Wisdom is something that should be desirable in our lives, yet too often we see wisdom mocked. This can become disastrous. Why should we reach for wisdom? The various reasons include being able to understand wisdom better, to be an example, and to grow personally. Solomon gives us another reason in this verse of Proverbs.
Proverbs 1:7:
The fear of the LORD is the beginning of knowledge,
but fools despise wisdom and discipline. (NIV)
Make it Personal:
I highly suggest that you keep a personal notebook as you try to grow personally. In it, you can write your opinions of…
Recently, I was talking with my children and found myself hurt that they didn’t remember something that I thought was a major event in our family unit’s history. How could they not remember? I did. When I read this part of Malachi, I began to understand more of God’s words. In this part, God is addressing His chosen — the Jewish people(currently in two nations of Israel and Judah). He is extremely hurt when His own children do not seem to remember their history and His part in it and lets them know through his prophet Malachi.
Have we not…
Authors are creative. Can we agree about that? They have to be in order to create vivid landscapes, intriguing plots, unique characters, and events that stay with us long after we finish reading.
One of the things creative authors fail to do is be creative in their marketing. They follow in other people’s footsteps and never deviate. Be creative and stand out. Creativity goes beyond the writing. It has to occur in the marketing as well.
Everyone does the same thing over and over. They copy what successful people have done because it had worked at one time. …
The Renaissance years have had a large impact on our current culture. References to its advances are found everywhere. The art is seen in every gallery. The literature is evident in our world today as well though few recognize it when they see it. In today’s world, all forms of entertainment can trace many aspects to the Renaissance.
The following is a short list of many great pieces that came from the Renaissance era that have had large impacts on our world today. Our culture, our literature, or media, and our government can trace back to many of these pieces…
There are a large number of readers who like to read excerpts of work before buying anything. Yes, there are summaries that are used most often to give a reader an idea of what the story is about. Summaries can be misleading and don’t reflect exactly how the story is written. Readers don’t want to feel like they have wasted their money. That is why sharing a few excerpts is a great idea.
An excerpt is a piece of your story. Typically it can range from two paragraphs to a full chapter. It should never be more than that. …
This is something that isn’t new, but the realization of how effective they are has hit the stratosphere. This is especially true for authors. Now they are promoted as a must for all marketing no matter what you are trying to promote.
“Infographics are visual presentations of information that use the elements of design to display content. Infographics express complex messages to viewers in a way that enhances their comprehension. Images are often an extension of the content of a written article, but infographics convey a self-contained message or principle.” (http://www.instantshift.com/2011/03/25/what-are-infographics-and-why-are-they-important/)
They take a large amount of info and condense…
These are becoming more popular over the years. Why buy just one book when for just a little more you can buy two, three, or even a dozen? Readers love a bargain and buying more than one of your books at once is a great way to bring them in. Typically these are done as ebooks but can be done as print, but the price is usually too high for them to garner much attention and thus many sales.
All you do is actually create one ebook with each book separate by either images of the covers or very large…

Choosing the 10 most important events in history is one of the most difficult and controversial things to do. Why? Because history is more than a few hundred years long, and there is way too much bias in most lists.
I’ve attempted to create a list without that bias that manages to touch on the major events in history that ended up shaping the world. Some of the events were huge, yet impacted only a continent or two. Others literally touched every culture and brought them into a whole new way of thinking. …
There are so many ways you can market your book. In fact, there are probably hundreds if not thousands of ways. Yes, it can be overwhelming, but every one of those ways need to be looked at by you. Don’t look at them all at the same time, but pick a few and focus on them. You need to be working on several at one time. One you really need to include is Goodreads giveaways.
It might sound counterproductive to give your book away, but the truth is that giving someone a taste of your work usually has them wanting…
When you network with people, you meet all different kinds of people from all areas of the industry and beyond. You don’t know these people. That means you need to get to know them better to guide you in how to network and, truthfully, to discover who you need to avoid.
What kind of people are they? Do they have a sense of humor? What do they read/write? What genres are they in? What do they do for a living? Hobbies and talents are important to know as well. If someone really likes to garden, maybe you know someone who…
