Being a Good Steward of Your World

What does it mean to be a good steward? What is a steward? In today’s world, that word is rarely seen except in legal wording, ancient texts, and religious works. That’s very sad. It is a word that has such value and is relegated to the dark recesses of boring and ancient. Let’s see if we can give it more life in today’s world.

Defining Stewardship

Webster’s (https://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/stewardship) dictionary defines stewardship as “the careful and responsible management of something entrusted to one’s care”. That means being a steward is being the one who is careful and responsible for anything that they have in their control. You are a steward.

Every single one of us is a steward. We are a steward of our homes, our children, our jobs, our clothes, our bodies, our money, and anything else that is ours. Nothing is too small to be considered out of our stewardship role. We can extend that to even mean the environment. It is all ours to tend to and care for.

In a legal sense, that would be someone who has legal charge of an estate. In a religious sense, it is to tend to your money and gifts from God wisely. In this sense, it is to take care of everything you have so it can return the favor by lasting for years.
