A writing prompt is anything that helps you write a story, whether it is a novel or short story. It can be a word, a sentence, a sound, a movie, or a simple picture. It is literally anything that helps a writer with a scene or prompt them to write an entirely new story.
How to Use Writing Prompts
Whatever your writing prompt is, contemplate on it. A song? Listen to it several times without anything interfering. A phrase? Read it and then think on it for a few hours or even a few days. Let your imagination run wild.
For picture writing prompts like we have here, look at the picture. Put it aside and then look again later. Imagine what is behind the scenes. What was there before the picture was taken? What is the picture really about it? There is always more to the story.
