Studying the Christian Bible is a task that can be done casually or intensely. To study it with depth, one must look hard at the scriptures and apply them to their life. There are many methods to do this. One is the SOAP method where the Scripture is read, Observations are made on the words, the Application to be made in your own life, and the Prayer to help you succeed.

Below I have chose some scripture for me to use the SOAP method. You can do it on your own or go along with me as I do it. Add comments at the end on what stood out to you and what you observed as you read on it and thought about the words.

Scripture

You have heard that it was said, ‘You shall not commit adultery. But I tell you that anyone who looks at a woman lustfully has already committed adultery with her in his heart. If your right eye causes you to stumble, gouge it out and throw it away. It is better for you to lose one part of your body than for your whole body to be thrown into hell. And if your right hand causes you to stumble, cut it off and throw it away. It is better for you to lose one part of your body than for your whole body to go into hell. (Matthew 5:27–30 NIV)

At first, these words sound so harsh. It even sounds the opposite of the love we say the Bible projects and Jesus himself as he reached…
