The Last to Die Book Review

Jamie Upton is a womanizer. In fact, that is an understatement when it comes to this man who was born with more than one silver spoon in his mouth. He takes whatever he wants, but he can’t seem to get one woman out of his head even when is bedding dozens more. He’s three weeks from his wedding to a woman his family finds acceptable when he is found dead after being tortured. The woman he was obsessed with is a suspect, but then there are many other women who might want to get their revenge.

I found myself really struggling to guess who the killer was. I won’t spoil it for you, but I never would have picked the right person.

The story is more than just a murder mystery. As this book is part of a series, it is also about the residents of this town. There are complex relationships, many with a past. I found the characters very interesting and wanted to know them better. I’ll be checking out the rest of this series.

I didn’t actually “read” this book. I listened to the audiobook. The narrator did a great job of creating different voices for each character and putting life into the words. I recently listened to a book that was extremely monotone. Glad this one had passion in the telling.

I do want to warn you. This book has some language and explicit scenes. The actual death scene was graphic but not over the top. It was just enough for me to see it in my head which wasn’t a pleasant sight.
