Things Are Not Always What They Seem
The next book in the Kingfountain series, The Thief’s Daughter takes the reader on a journey of discovery and mystery as a young boy becomes a young duke and a confidant of the king. Owen is discovering more about the man he serves and more about those closest to him. His patience and his loyalty are severely tested.
I have to admit that I am in love with the author, Jeff Wheeler. His writing is intriguing and keeps the reader glued to the pages. The reader learns the characters extremely well yet finds themselves shocked as more is revealed, page by page. The author does not waste the readers time with details that do not matter to the story or the plot. He focuses on what is important while not depriving the reader of vivid descriptions.
These characters are extremely complex and deep. When you think you know one well, other aspects are revealed based on the situations that arise. The characters are continually challenged and learn more about who they really are and what they are capable of as the story progresses.
Several characters I fell in love with. Several I am weary of. Others I cannot stand. They all play important roles which keep them in my sights.
The story is full of multiple plots that are all tied closely together. The main plot takes young Owen down paths to learn the extent of his powers and to learn more about those around him. He finds unexpected friends and trials as he begins to grow. Is the king really who Owen sees him as? Is Owen’s destiny where he thinks it lies? Does he have a chance to fulfill all his dreams? Courtly intrigue and wars help to answer those questions.
I love how the plot is not two-dimensional and plain to see from the first page. It twists and turns but appears completely logical once the end is reached.
I have no warnings for this story. It is not the final piece as there is another book to continue the tale. There is no foul language. There are no sex scenes. There is war and death, but the descriptions are not graphic.
Wonderful book two in the series. I was hooked to the very end and quickly had to get book three. I read this as an audio book. The narration was excellent and the story was captivating. Wonderful fantasy read that will have you wanting more.
