This is one of the least used ways to get traffic to your blog and to any of your products/services. Yet it is one of the most effective.
Make a list of where you are located on the internet. There could be Facebook, Twitter, Linkedin, Google Plus, and even sites where you write periodic pieces such as HubPages or BellaOnline. Each of these has a place for you to write information about yourself for a profile. Using the profile section wisely can help you generate more traffic thaTn you might think.
When people read what you post or publish and they like what they see, they’ll want to know more about you. Looking at your profile, they can see all the places you can be found on the Internet, and they start exploring. That means your profile needs to be up-to-date and pointing to your blog.
I learned this the hard way. On LinkedIn, I had posted some conversation starters. One woman found my comments intriguing. She went to my profile to find where she could read more of my stuff. My profile was not up-to-date. She sent me a message telling me how it had hurt me with her. How many others had looked and seen the same horrible profile? Who knows! I could have lost tons of traffic.
Think of your profile as a short biography/ad. Use it to show people your credentials, experience, and where they can discover more about you. Give them the tools to professionally stalk you. Want followers? Give them the directions to follow. That means using your profile effectively.
What should you put on your profile page?
A professional picture is a must for any profile. Don’t use pictures of your kids. Don’t use the picture of your dog. Especially don’t use any pictures you don’t want your children or grandchildren to see. Make sure your picture is very professional. Think of what an author’s picture looks like on the back of their book or how a politicians look in ads. Go for that kind of look.

Talk about your education. Do you have a degree in your subject matter? Do you have certifications? I have a minor in English along with two degrees. That is something to note as it gives a foundation for my writings. Anything that supports my credentials to the public for my work/services needs to be noted. People like to read things from people who have the knowledge.
Experience is just as important if not more so than education. I am a strong supporter of higher education, but there are a lot of people who can get a degree and still know nothing about the subject. I would rather hear from someone who has had years of experience in a field explain things to me than someone who read a book, took a test, and got a piece of paper saying they have a degree.
In your profile, tell the world how long you have used a product, worked in an industry, or done the work yourself. I’ve been writing book reviews for over seven years and have been reading prolifically for close to forty. That is something that should be put in the profile. People want to know your experience.
Have you written other books or for other sites? People want to know that information. It helps to show your credentials. List out other books you have written or helped to write. Give links to where they can read more about them and/or purchase them. The more support you have for your expertise or knowledge in an area, the better. In other words, the more books you have published, the better.
Where can they find you? Where can you be found on the internet? If I am reading something you have written as an article or even as a post on social network and like it, I want to read more. I will then go to your profile page to see where I get more information from you. List where your presence is on the web. Give readers what they want if they want more of you.
What if your readers want to contact you? Maybe they want you to review their product. Maybe they want you to write for them. There are so many reasons they might want to contact you.
